The Sound of Music

A few weeks ago Michael and Evan were gone for the evening and Emma and I were home alone. I decided to put on one of my favorite movies, The Sound of Music. I was excited to introduce Emma to the genre of musicals, especially one of the best musicals ever! However, I had to beg, bribe and plead with that girl. She had never seen it before and was not very enthused about watching it.

But now it gives me great satisfaction to say that all week she has been begging me to see--as she calls it--Maria. And we have to keep asking her to turn the volume down in her room as she listens to the soundtrack over and over and over again. Hooray! I knew she would love it.

I do find it funny that she really likes the Sixteen Going on Seventeen song but doesn't want to listen to Edelweiss. It reminds me exactly of how I was as a kid. I used to run out of the room or duck behind the couch during the icky, mushy scenes between Maria and Captain Von Trapp.

But, ok now I get it...why Maria likes Captain Von Trapp. Edelweiss! Holy shmoly. Yep, you can just sing that one more time, Georg.

I guess that means I'm old. Oh well.

You are such a wonderful mom, cultivating the love of music, history and good wholesome entertainment in your children. I, just tonight, also excitedly introduced my children to the cinematic love of my childhood.....Star Wars. I am pretty sure all I am cultivating over here is violence, the Star Wars obsession, and fear of Darth Vader. Yeah, I wish I would have gone with the Sound of Music......

That's such a great idea! Whenever I see the 'Sound of Music' it makes me think of when I was a kid, too. I loved that movie, and still do. I just never understood how her hair could look so bad, afterall, it didn't look that bad in Mary Poppins. My favorite song is "Do, Ra, Me..."

Your goals to the side there cracked me up! And do you know I have never seen The Sound of Music? Is that weird? I'm glad Emma loves it, though. It's exciting to share the things we love with our kids--I can't wait to introduce Brinley to Jane...

I'm glad she liked it! It's always a bummer when you think they will like something and you get all excited to introduce them to it... and they hate it!

I love Sound of Music. Right next to My fair Lady, my favorite musical!

Totally agree with "one of the best musicals ever" (not sure if that is a direct quote or a paraphrase...but didn't you say something to that effect?) love it. love it. AND, I love your goals. If it makes you feel any better, I went four days without showering this week. Amazing--I know.

Aaah, I love him to. The Sound of Music is one of my favourite movies. I go around singing the songs for days every time I watch the movie.
